Trevor's Birthday wish...Make it come true!

It's Trevor here! Many people have said, with what appears to be a genuine smile, ''What do you want for your birthday?' For those who mean it sincerely, and aren't just doing the Facebook dance, I do indeed want something for my birthday.

More than want. It's something I need, for my birthday.
I need a bit of help.

Help because a used car is sorely needed for my family, staff and the management at the Botshibelo poverty alleviation village in Magaliesburg, South Africa.

Unfortunately, because they don’t have back-up transport, taxis are being used for medical emergencies for women in labor and kids who need to see a doctor or go to the clinic or emergency room. They have to borrow from the food money to deal with transport in emergencies.

I can't, with a clear conscience, not try to support my friends in this situation.

Three hundred kids and hundreds of villagers are served by Botshibelo, and almost every day someone needs to be ferried somewhere.

They need a car to buy groceries, go to the pharmacy, get building supplies, rescue kids from abusive situations in the area, support kids who have been abandoned, get the teens to school, bring in supplies, take the older kids to their courses, and get animals to the vet.

The list goes on.

Unfortunately, the main transportation vehicle at Botshibelo is limping along and, due to Covid, general funds are dangerously low, so there is absolutely no money for a used car.

Our goal is $8 500.

Times are really tough at Botshibelo at the moment due to Covid and loss of jobs in the area. More than tough actually, they are dire.

Please help me raise this money for my birthday so we can buy a used car for Botshibelo.

Since 1990, Botshibelo has worked to become a self-sustaining community and, more importantly, a place of safety and family to South Africa's AIDS orphans and economic orphans. The community includes an orphanage, school, village, medical clinic and organic farm.

Botshibelo, founded by Marion and Con Cloete in 1990, is dedicated to improving the lives of the economically challenged, especially children who have been orphaned for various reasons. Using the traditional African village (and its inherent ubuntu values of cooperation and joint responsibility) as a model, the community works together to break the cycle of poverty and bring hope, safety, education and sustainable growth to all residents.
