More kids than ever feel worried, stressed out, and anxious every day. Their parents and teachers may not know—because kids don’t want to talk about it, or they don’t know how to put their worries into words. Their “secret stress” surfaces as stomachaches, headaches, fatigue, trouble sleeping, loss of appetite, and an inability to concentrate. These and other stress-related symptoms can have a negative effect on school performance, family life, and friendships.

From the best-selling authors of True or False? Tests Stink!, this book is a helping hand for kids and an eye-opener for adults. Reassuring words, silly jokes, and light-hearted cartoons let kids know they’re not the only worry-warts on the planet—and they can learn to manage their stress. A “What, Me Worry?” section describes the causes of stress and its physical and emotional effects. “How to Be a Panic Mechanic” gives kids ideas for dealing with stress and being stronger and more assertive.

Upbeat, positive, fact-filled, and friendly, this is the book on stress for kids and young adolescents.

My grandson was having problems in with school homework. This book helped a lot, so his response encouraged me to find more books that he could learn from and get a laugh as well.

Stress is like spice - in the right proportion it enhances the flavor of a dish. Too little produces a bland, dull meal; too much may choke you.

Very well written. Short and to the point. It defines stress and lists feelings associated with stress. It also offers some suggestions for dealing with stress and it does so in an entertaining way.

This book was ordered for our grade schooler, due to some issues at school. He was finding some things stressful and couldn't figure out how to verbalize his frustrations. This book helped us tease out what was going on, and we were really able to help him. The book is written week and gives an age appropriate vocabulary for a youngster!

This book presents fully substantive tools and ideas that even adults need to understand and use in a very approachable and relatable way. I bought it to read to my eleven-year-old, but will also read it to my fifteen-year-old because it was so well done. I'm so glad I bought this book.

We knew my son had some problems with stress, especially since he was recently diagnosed with an ulcer, but I got this book so that we could start to talk about it. At the beginning of the book it has a quirky little "stress test" to see how stressed the child is. Well, you can imagine my surprise when my son answered YES to a question about whether he's ever thought about hurting himself! I was devastated. We both held each other and had a great talk, making sure he knew just how special and loved he is. We immediately made an appointment with a specialist to get him the help he needs. This book was a great way to start a dialogue with your children about stress and worries. I am sad to say that I was one of those people who thought a 10 year old COULDN'T be "stressed" ... life has changed a lot since we were kids and this book is a great place to START, and even includes some ways for the kids to handle and relieve their stress. It is presented in a fun, nonthreatening way, that made my son want to keep reading this book, and most importantly it let him know that he's not alone! Thank you for writing such a relevant book for today's children (and their parents).
