Oh Dear

pondering-mouse.jpg
Oh dear, forget all about the dying kids in Darfur. Ignore the suffering people in the Sudan. Don't worry about kids with cancer...Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are getting married this weekend! It's in every paper, on the cover of every magazine, on every television talk show and even on the nightly...errr...news. Why is this so important? Why are millions of dollars being spent to cover this non-event? Why are journalists scrambling from all over the world to be in Italy for the ceremony. I am saddened that celebrity infatuation has become the focus of our resources, energy, and most of all, our valuable time. And that's my rant for the year!

Double amen to that!

I think we are interested because no matter what happens with Katie and Tom it will not be earth shattering. We do not have to feel responsible or motivated to do something. It is not sad and depressing (unless you happen to be a member of Katie's family)--- it is diversion. It gives your mind a laugh break.

Now back to Darfur...

I wonder too ...
Nonetheless, the mouse is lovely.

I was *almost* successful in ignoring the Katie and Tom thing, until I heard on the news how much exactly Tom will have to pay at any given possible future event which involves splitting up or fancying somebody else. Earth shattering news, I must say.

I don't understand our fascination with the whole "TomKat" thing. Are our lives so boring and unfulfilling that we have to live vicariously through the "lifestyles of the rich and famous"? It's not news or even newsworthy but as long as we keep buying it, the media will keep selling it.

OK, I am not American.
I am not a native English speaker.
I live in South America (A whole different hemisphere, for God´s sake!)
... and, today, I couldn´t escape from the Katie-Tom marriage thing.
It´s incredible how the media spends millions showing us that kind of news. There are a lot of important things we need to know, but media prefers something easy to sell, something fresh, pink, and very comfortable. People and their realities are not fashionable products.
You need to be famous to be valuable. We live very strange and heartless times.
