Thinking Big

... and have you noticed that mosquitoes might be tiny mirrors into the character of a person? I learned this at a wedding reception recently - we were all dressed in our finest, which for women often means flimsy dresses and bare legs. We drank champagne at the evening reception by the light of the heavy orange harvest moon and swarms of starving autumnal mosqitoes swooped down on our unprotected bodies. Some flapped and flustered, by your pictures you could well have been a guest at that wedding (but I don't remember seeing you there)! Others accepted the blood sacrifice stoicly or presented scientific theories and methods to reduce the itching. Some stood their ground and others fled indoors. It brought out chivalrous gentlemen who gave their jackets to an unprotected woman and smokers who created obnoxious clouds to scare the hordes off. And I watched, wondering if these patterns reflected more than the moment. Probably.
