To be continued...

twogirlstalking.jpg

After sitting in the park today I saw and heard something that helped me make up my mind to keep my blog exactly as it is. (See previous blog.) Thanks to all of you who sent me such wonderful, heartfelt feedback. And yes, I know, it’s my blog and I should be authentic and write what is true to me, not pander to others. You are right! Consider it done. The blog will continue, as is, ad infinitum.

Today in the park on the banks of the Colorado River here in Austin two young girls were sitting off by themselves and chatting while their mothers conversed on a bench nearby.

The girls sat for almost an hour talking non-stop. I was only able to catch a small part of their conversation carried by the wind to where I sat.

“I’m going to be a veterinarian.”

“You are?”

“Uh huh.”

“I love animals.”

“Me too.”

“I was going to be a doctor.”

“You’re not going to be a doctor anymore?”

“No.”

“Why not?”

“Because if you’re a doctor, you have to go to war.”

The wind changed direction and I could hear no more…

i'm SO happy you're keeping your blog as it is. it's one of my daily "must reads." r.

Eavesdropping again, eh?
But seriously, what I love best about your blog is your drawings and the way you write. The way you tell stories. How I experience them is up to me. For me what you write isn't "sad," it is real and relatable and moving. Very often it is exactly the nudge, or reminder that I need to shift perspective and perception. Your gratitude is contagious and for that I am grateful.

I sit at my desk everyday, I've only been in this city a year and I am still a stranger so not many friends to chat with locally. I work by myself, mostly on the phone, so when I get lonely, I have "friends" I touch base with that I have a lot in common with, artists who are doing their art in wonderful ways. Some I send letters of encouragement. some encourage me to grow, even though I have never met them and they probably aren't really sure who I am either.
Trevor, you are one that encourages me to grow. Yes, some of your messages tug at the heart or draw a tear, but in the same breath they encourage me to think beyond myself, to wonder what good I can do for someone else this day. Iove your art work and love your tales. I am very grateful you have decided to continue your good work on line.

This one really hit home for me today. I just returned from a high school reunion. One of my old grade school friends is now a doctor. He just returned from Iraq and his fourth child was born while he was away.

I recently discovered this page and I am addicted. It would not be real if there were only happy/humerous stories (which are of course my favorite) but even the sad ones tickle me in a way like no other. My opinion, keep writing. It doesnt matter about what, as long as it is your reality. thank you!
