Ft Campbell, Ft Campbell, Kentucky, March 23-25, 2009
Award winning author and video personality, Trevor Romain continued his tour of The Department of Defense Education system tour. Ft Campbell is one of the largest military bases in The United States. It is home of the 101st Airborne Division. Ft. Campbell has been hit very hard by multiple deployments. The children of these families have sacrificed a lot. Romain, who was in the Airborne in South Africa, so this particular base had a special place in his heart. “When I told these kids that I was Airborne, they really perked up because they could relate.”
All of the DDESS schools have been using The Trevor Romain Company’s bulling curriculum. All of the kids have been watching the award winning dvd and doing plenty of writing in their journals.
Romain lights up the room when he comes in. The kids treat Romain like a rock star since they have been seeing him and listening to him on the dvd. And as far as bullying goes, unfortunately there is plenty of it on these bases. “Some of these kids have so much built up frustration because of the multiple deployments. They haven’t figured out how to release some of the anger they have and unfortunately, many of these kids take it on someone else. I am very pleased that we are able to provide these schools and these students with some materials that will help them express themselves in a positive way.”
Romain spoke to all five elementary schools on the base, so he was very busy on his trip to Ft Campbell. But it was all worth it for him. “To be able to listen to these kids and share ideas on how to make their world and the world in general a better place to live is a real honor.”
