Trevor Romain Kicks Off School Year at Ft. Bragg and Camp Lejeuene
Ft Bragg, North Carolina and Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, January 5–9
Elementary school students at Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeuene kicked off the New Year with a visit from award-winning author and DVD personality, Trevor Romain. More than two thousand elementary students welcomed Romain like a rock star, laughing out loud at his jokes while taking to heart his message of hope and compassion.
“The visit came at just the right time, not only to support the students, but to remind all of us of the mammoth tasks we adults have in maintaining a strong support system for our students,” said Elizabeth Thomas, assistant superintendent of DDESS of North Carolina.
The Department of Defense has implemented The Trevor Romain Company’s Bullies Are a Pain in the Brain curriculum, a social awareness program that teaches students about bullying behavior, in many of their schools. Guidance counselors who teach the program at Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune also show students the award-winning DVD, Bullies Are A Pain In The Brain.
“Words can not adequately express how wonderful it was to see and hear someone of Trevor Romain’s caliber. He was phenomenal. He connected quickly with our students and held their attention with his humor, illustrations and personal testimonies. His visit was absolutely timely, inspiring, and motivating. The students absolutely embrace him and his message. The videos are poignant and relevant to our students. And they are making a positive difference,” wrote Cassandra White, Principal of Delalio Elementary, after Romain visited her school.
Camp Lejeune and Ft. Bragg are two of the hardest-hit U.S. military bases in terms of military deployment. Many of the bases’ young students have had a parent deployed multiple times, have had both parents deployed at the same time, or have lost a parent in combat.
Many students were able to express their frustrations and release bottled-up emotions as a result of Romain’s visit. He received several notes and emails from students afterwards, telling him how much they learned from his talks and how they wanted to make a positive difference in the world.
“To hear some of the situations that many of these kids are going through is heartbreaking. But when you receive notes about how they have a better understanding of their feelings, and how they want to harness some of their emotions to help others in need is truly gratifying,” said Trevor Romain.
Trevor Romain will continue his tour of DDESS schools with a visit to Guantanamo Bay in late January and Quantico in February.
